Yokhanan (John):

Chapter 1 (incomplete)

1 In the beginning was the Miltha*, and the Miltha was with God, and the Miltha was God.

2 He existed in the beginning with God.

3 Through his hand* all things were made, but without him nothing has been done or made.

4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men.

5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness is not able apprehend it.

6 There was a man whose name was Yokhanan, who was sent by God.

7 This one came to testify, to bear witness about the light, so that everyone could believe by him.

8 But he was not the light, but [was sent] in order to testify concerning the light.

9 Because the true light is that which came into the world in order to enlighten all men.

10 He was in the world and the world was made through him, but the world did not know him.

11 He came to his own, but they did not receive him,

12 but those who did receive him, those who believed in his name, he gave to them the right to become the children of God,

13 (that is) those who are not born of blood, nor by the desire of the flesh, or by the will of man, but of God.

14 And the Miltha became flesh and dwelt among us, and we looked upon his glory, the glory as of the one Son* of the Father, that he was full of grace and truth.

1:14, "one Son", or "only Son"; others "only begotten Son" - from the Aramaic "echadaya"
