Jeremiah

Chapter 7 (partial)

21 Thus says Mar-Yah of hosts, the God of Yisrael: Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices, and eat meat which I did not command your fathers to eat;

22 in the day that I delivered them up from the land of Egypt I did not command of them burnt-offerings nor sacrifices,

23 but commanded them this word, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God and you shall be my people, and walk in all the ways which I command, and you will do well.

24 But they paid no attention, nor inclined their ear to hear, but were in pursuit of their own ideas and desires of their evil heart. They walked backward and not forward.

25 From the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt unto this day, each day I have sent all my servants the prophets;

26 I sent them in advance, but paid none paid attention, nor inclined their ear to me; on the contrary, they made their necks stiffer than their parents.

27 Speak, therefore, all these things but they do not listen; call to them, but they do not respond.

28 Truth has perished and has been removed from their mouth.

Chapter 9 (partial)

22 For thus says Mar-Yah: Like waste [trash, rubbish, debris] the corpses of men will fall in the face of the camp, and like grass after the reaper, and none shall gather.

23 Thus says Mar-Yah: The wise shall not boast in their wisdom nor shall the valiant [mighty, strong] boast in their bravery and glory in their courage [strength], or the rich boast in their wealth.

Chapter 33 (partial)

33:25 Thus says Mar-Yah: If my covenant of day and night fails, if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth;

33:26 then will I also cast away the seed of Ya'aqub, and of David my servant, so that I will not take of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Yitzchak, and Ya'aqub: for I will cause their captivity to return, and will have mercy on them.

Chapter 34 (partial)

34:8 The word that came to Yeram'ya* from Mar-Yah*, after that the king Tzidqa'ya* had made a covenant with all the people who were in Yerushalayim, to proclaim liberty to them;

34:9 that every man should let his male servant, and every man his female servant, who is a Hebrew or a Hebrewess, go free; that none should make bond-servants of them, of a Jew his brother.

34:10 All the princes and all the people obeyed, who had entered into the covenant, that everyone should let his male servant, and everyone his female servant, go free, that none should make bond-servants of them any more; they obeyed, and let them go:

34:11 but afterwards they turned, and caused the servants and the handmaids, whom they had let go free, to return, and brought them into subjection for servants and for handmaids.

34:12 Therefore the word of Mar-Yah came to Yeram'ya from Mar-Yah, saying,

34:13 Thus says Mar-Yah, the Alaha* of Yisrael: I made a covenant with your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Mitzrayim*, out of the house of bondage, saying,

34:14 At the end of seven years you shall let go every man his brother who is a Hebrew, who has been sold to you, and has served you six years, you shall let him go free from you: but your fathers did not listen to me, neither inclined their ear.

34:15 You had now turned, and had done that which is right in my eyes, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbour; and you had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name:

34:16 but you turned and profaned my name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his handmaid, whom you had let go free at their pleasure, to return; and you brought them into subjection, to be to you for servants and for handmaids.

34:17 Therefore thus says Mar-Yah: you have not listened to me, to proclaim liberty, every man to his brother, and every man to his neighbour: behold, I proclaim to you a liberty, says Mar-Yah, to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine; and I will make you to be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth.

34:18 I will give the men who have transgressed my covenant, who have not performed the words of the covenant which they made before me, when they cut the calf in two and passed between its parts;

34:19 the princes of Yehuda*, and the princes of Yerushalayim, the priests*, and all the people of the land, who passed between the parts of the calf;

34:20 I will even give them into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their life; and their dead bodies shall be for food to the birds of the sky, and to the animals of the earth.

34:21 Tzidqa'ya king of Yehuda and his princes will I give into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their life, and into the hand of the army which is of the king of Babel, who have gone away from you.

34:22 Behold, I will command, says Mar-Yah, and cause them to return to this city; and they shall fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire: and I will make the cities of Yehuda a desolation, without inhabitant.
